Gunhild Carling is a Swedish multi-instrumentalist, singer, and charismatic stage performer based in the United States, who is considered one of today’s most distinctive performers of classic swing. Gunhild’s musical world draws inspiration from the golden age of jazz of the 1920s–40s, and her performances are always an experience in their own right. Carling is known for her phenomenal ability to play a wide variety of instruments—trombone, trumpet, flute, bagpipes, various percussion, keyboard, and string instruments, including the harp, and even multiple instruments at once—and to weave it all into a highly entertaining show.
The Carling Family consists of three generations of exceptional musicians from Gunhild’s own family, with whom she brings to the stage a wild New Orleans-style program where, in addition to music, dance, juggling, balancing acts, and perhaps even magic tricks play an important role. Each family member plays multiple instruments, which they spontaneously swap with one another during the performance. Concerts by Gunhild and The Carling Family are usually described as a truly unforgettable experience.
